Inside Development: Even More Advanced Combat

Right now, Rise & Ruin is primarily a fast-paced, intense, attack, defend, and manage mana game. As Taliesan, our Lead Designer describes it, if R&R were Chess "only the pawns and rooks are currently on the board for play -- just wait until the King and other pieces make an appearance!"

Currently, in order to attack your opponent, you must choose to either use your fists or a handheld weapon. Going forward, we look forward to allowing you to throw those weapons if you so choose, or even better aim them with a projectile weapon at your opponent's head. Along with these additional attacks, we will be working to introduce a magic-based attack system, as well as more complex defenses for you to incorporate into your strategy.

Another critical element of the game will be choosing which Attribute best suits your playing style. Like to use your body to attack your opponent? Strength will be your Attribute of choice. Want to be a Ninja, quick with your hands, yet always keeping a distance from your opponent with Throwing weapons? Dexterity will be your focus. All about the magic? Your Intelligence shows.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing you further to how the Attribute system will work, and how you can raise those Attributes through future modes of play.
