Player Spotlight: LOBO

Each month we host a player spotlight where your Community Manager, Burdenday, interviews a member of the Rise & Ruin community to get to know him or her a little better.

This month, we are pleased to feature LOBO as our Player of the Month for September!

Rise & Ruin: You've been playing Rise & Ruin for a while now, and have established yourself as a Rise & Ruin faithful. What keeps you coming back, and what are you most interested in Rise & Ruin's future?

LOBO: There are a few things that keep me around. For one, R&R has a huge future ahead and I'd like to be a part of that. I also enjoy keeping up with what the guys are doing behind the scenes.

Then there is always the events, they are always fun. Part of what makes them so fun is the close knit group of players we have in the Beta. Everyone knows everyone and we all have fun together. All in all its the feeling of being part of something great. Having the GMs around all the time and seeing that they really listen and use the advice the players give them, that sort of thing.

Rise & Ruin: Earlier in Rise & Ruin's history, you were on top of the Battle Rankings in the Tournament scene. Did you enjoy having to defend your title and bracket?

LOBO: Most definitely. That is part of what makes a game like this fun. PvP isn't any fun unless your skills and power are tested. I enjoy losing in R&R just as much as winning because that is how I know what my deck needs and what I need to work on, then the next week I can test out what I learned in the next tourney.

And wadda ya mean "were"!? You'll see me there again, trust me.

Rise & Ruin: What kind of gamer do you consider yourself to be (casual, hardcore, etc.) and how does this fit in with your interest in R&R?

LOBO: I been playing video games since I was 4. I remember waking up on xmas morning and seeing my brand new NES in a Mario and Zelda storage chest. Since then I have owned every system that has come out, from Sega CD to PS3. Only one I've never had is Xbox. So yeah I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore gamer, cause I know there are Halo fans out there that could make me look like a jerk, and I've never had a "frag" but I do consider myself a dedicated gamer.

As for how it fits with R&R, R&R is something new. a combination of RPG and TCG that has never been done like this before. The idea of a new kind of game is intriguing. Also there has never been a game with graphics like this in a browser. I really think browser games are going to be big in the future, full sized PS3 style games in a browser, and I think R&R is a step towards that. It is interesting to see how the game styles of old will impact this new style. I believe the balance of RPG, PvP, and TCG is very very crucial to R&R and I believe the team behind it seems to be on top of things.

Rise & Ruin: Do you have a favorite moment in your R&R career? Could you tell us about it?

LOBO: Hmmm that's kinda tough, but ifIi have to pick one it would probably be the first tourney. There was a pretty good turn out for it and everyone was close in rating, so it made for some good fights. I cant remember who my last fight was against, although im sure they will comment on this :P, but it was a close fight. Maybe the most exciting fight I've had on R&R, and that tourney cemented me as an R&R fan.

Rise & Ruin: Any final thoughts?

LOBO: Really just keep up the good work. I would love to see the RPG side of this game be nurtured as much as I think it should be. So i guess my final thought is just that -- don't let the RPG side of R&R fade away. I think its something that could happen very easily and I would hate to see it go. In fact having someone whose job it is to just develop the storyline may not be such a bad idea.

Also, stuff like this --t his interview of the month, and having GMs who are working behind the scenes actually be in the game rooms with the players. Things like that make for a tight knit group of players and for players to be close to the makers. That is something that tends to go away after a beta testing is done and, while it is understandable, I'd hate see it go.

And of course a big thank you to you Burdman, and all you guys that make R&R possible, and like I said, keep up the good work.

Rise & Ruin: Thanks LOBO!
