Third Watch

“This shift is the worst, Rynn.” The young jix`Su’s glossy eyes barely wandered as he walked down the empty corridor, spear slung across his back.

“I heard the order wasn’t even from the Queen herself – just a part of Aphroridae’s growing paranoia.”

“One day our names will be known all throughout the Hive. I can feel it.”

“Sure, brother, sure.”

A clanking rattle echoed down and across the thick walls, just barely alerting the pair’s attention. The two jix`Su looked at one another and stopped in their tracks for a short while, but the Hive was again silent. Together they continued on the slow-paced patrol, day-dreaming of their moment in the spotlight.
