When starting a battle, you can choose between three types of games – clash, duel, and epic. You can also choose between two modes - pure and balanced.
Clash, Duel & Epic
These options control the length of the game by assigning each player an equally lower or higher number of hit points, relevant to their battle rating. Duels are the 'normal' games. Clashes are shorter, intended for a few blasts of your best cards. Epic games are the longest, designed to test the depth and strength of your full deck.
Pure & Balanced
In version 1.5 REDUX of R&R, each character's hit points are determined by their battle rating. The higher your battle rating, the more hit points you have; how most RPGs work. This means that the player with the stronger battle rating is almost always going to win, even against a lower rated player with better strategy.
To fix this, we provide you with two options. Pure games keep everything as it is. You get your battle rating and hit points, and your opponent gets theirs. In a Balanced game, the hit points are switched between the players. So the stronger player has the weaker player's total hit points, and vice versa. As a result, each of you is attacking someone of your own strength. This means that players with different battle ratings can play each other with the full extent of their skills and deck and still have a fair game.
