Battle Tips for Friday Night Fights

Taliesan, the Lead Designer of R&R, has got some battle tips for us today. Study them well - Friday Night Fights is happening tonight.

  1. Don't pass any turns if you can help it. It's always best to play a card.
  2. Invest your skill points in Handheld or Hand-to-Hand right now. Probably best to put them all into Handheld. This will be fixed later when we start to put in debuff cards and the like, but it's important for right now.
  3. Make your deck full of 0, 1, and 2 mana point cards. Keep one or two 4 or 5 point cards in there for fun in case you get a chance to use them near the end of a battle to finish things off. Big mana point cards are useful at the end of a battle where it becomes more important to do damage /now/, as opposed to damage over multiple turns. But you only need a couple of them.
  4. Discard every turn. At each turn, look through your hand. Make sure you have at least one 0, 1, and 2 point mana cards in your hand to be sure you can always play a card. Then, look to see if you have two cards that both cost 2 mana points (for example) and both use the same skill. If one hand-held card gives you 2900 damage for 2 points and the other hand-held card gives you 3100 damage for 2 points, discard the 2900 damage card to free up room in your hand to draw more modifiers. Experienced players discard at every turn. This is how you make sure you really get the most out of each mana point. Make sure you bring enough cards with you so that you don't run out, however.
  5. Try not to spend mana on defense. It's only wise to spend mana on defense if your opponent is coming at you with a /really/ big card. Otherwise you get more return for your mana on attack.
  6. Collect, buy, and play modifier cards as often as possible. They are free damage. We'll be launching a pure modifier pack shortly.
  7. Trade with other players to max out the damage / mana strength of your deck! There can be a substantial difference in damage even between the same two cards of the same level. Be sure to trade and collect to max out the damage / mana of each card you have.

Hey Chetyre,

You can trade cards from the packs that you purchase but not those you receive in your free Newbie Pack. Here's some more information.

Cards you win...

Cards you win in contests or as prizes in events, from today forward, will also be able to be traded in most circumstances, too.

Too bad

I can't make it to-night, but I'll be there in spirit. Do I still get a prize for that? ;)

Ah, ok. Now that you say

Ah, ok. Now that you say that I vaguely remember you mentioning somewhere else that your original cards can't be traded.

A bit late, but still worth mention

I know a little too late, but there is one more factor to take into account when selecting and discarding cards. Whether you are a jix'Su, or a Ralak, you have a prefered weapon type. When using these weapons, you get a boost to damage which may make a card which has a lower numerical value but is a favored weapon do more damage than a higher numerical value card of a different weapon type. For Ralaks, they prefer good old fashion swordplay with slashing weapons. Jix'Su, however, like to keep their distance with piercing weapons such as spears and halberds. The other species coming out later also have their own preferences; Keldei like axes, and Reyda prefer blunt weapons (like the infamous hammer of doom).

Draygon i doubt that

Draygon i doubt that prefered weapon type thingy is already
active and if it is ... it's not rly showing or making
much of a difference.
