Rene has come back with Part II of his series on the mysterious jixSu warrior Septu.
"Septu was always a problem among the ranks of jix’Su soldiers. Unlike his brood, he grew weary quickly and showed an impetuousness that often pushed the boundaries of “the jix’Su order.” One such incident arose after Septu had returned from a reconnaissance mission outside the protective waters surrounding The Hive. Sneaking through the forests of Gaia under cover of darkness, Septu had been attracted to the unfamiliar light of flickering flame and odd animal-like grunts and growls. Approaching closer, Septu observed a group of Keldei behaving in erratic, incomprehensible ways. The Keldei, ten or twenty-fold, were decorated in ways Septu had never seen.
Though it was difficult to see clearly by the light of flames, it appeared that the Keldei had painted elaborate patterns onto their fur, and bunches of feathers, animal teeth, bones and various other items adorned their clothing as they gyrated, jumped and moved about strangely around a giant bonfire. (They were performing an ancient ritual dance, but to a jix’Su this behavior made absolutely no sense!)
Septu crouched silently, trying to compute how best to report the events transpiring before him, when suddenly there was a rustling sound, and a pair of cat-like eyes faced his dark, glistening emotionless gaze. A small creature just stood there, either frightened, curious, or merely oblivious to danger. Instinctively, Septu swiftly grasped the creature by the neck, and it froze in his grip, and did not call out or even gasp. Septu quickly examined his prize. It was indeed small, and it’s fur longish, ruffled with tufts here and there. Its eyes large, ears pointed, but it wore a garment of stitched animal skin. He could see that this was no mere creature of the woods. This was a Keldei child!”
