“New Math” Update Notes

We have released an update for Rise & Ruin! Check out the following patch notes for a complete run down, then jump into the game and experience the new fun and fury first hand.

Skill Point Changes:

  • Small differences in the amount of Skill Points spent between characters were having too large an impact on the results of a battle. As little as a 3% difference in skill level was resulting in one character having total dominance over another. Collecting and spending Skill Points will still give you a significant advantage, but small differences will no longer guarantee a win.
  • To encourage fair fights, Skill Points will only be earned when fighting a character of comparable experience. You will earn Skill Points for an opponent within +/- 1.0 of your Battle Rating.
  • As you increase your skills, the number of skill points it will take to gain the next level will slowly increase.
  • Players who lose a battle now earn 1 Skill Point for their efforts, so long as the Battle Rating criteria are met.

Battle Changes:

  • With the impact of skills now properly balanced, your cards will do more of their potential damage. To compensate, the total hit points assigned each character at the start of battle has been increased.
  • Balancing has also been made to defense cards, making them more relevant.
  • Battle Ratings have been implemented to give you a general idea of the strength of your opponent. You can view your opponent's battle rating by clicking on his name in chat.

I'm excited about these changes. I like the idea of knowing something about the opponent I'm challenging and how many points I can win. Really appreciate the 1 skill point even if you lose a match (especially when the luck of the draw isn't with you during the match).

The new math is great, and I like the other updates (not the skill upgrade cost though, sadly) as well. However, I am having moral issues with the pink cards. ;p

Yah. We want to switch that back. :)

The declining return on skill points is required to make sure people can catch each other. Otherwise when one person is ahead they stay ahead permanently.

It's also standard across the games industry. ;)
