That's a very valid observation. Let me get in contact with our coders and see if it's something that's possible to be implemented in a patch -- there may be some technical limitation -- if not, I agree it can be a little worry some that your opponent has locked up and we should look into what we can do about making it less so.
The technical limitation is that we could show it, but it wouldn't be accurate. Online games run by sending server messages back and forth between the players. Different players get these messages at different speeds depending upon their connection and where they are in the world. So the timer would look to start at a slightly different time and would get confusing.
That said, we have something even better planned for when you're waiting on your opponent to play a card. It won't be coming soon as we have a few other things to do first (and there are only a few of us) but it will actually add a strategic element to the game.
